Panda Express Orange Chicken

If you have been to Costco lately, you will see them always giving out samples of orange chicken, using the Panda Express Orange Sauce. We broke down a few weeks ago and purchased it. Really, it tastes pretty darn similar. So if you have a Costco near you, next time you are there, pick up a bottle.

4 chicken breasts-thawed
2 eggs
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
salt and pepper
Panda Express Orange Sauce

Cut your chicken into bite size pieces. In a bowl whisk together your eggs. In a seperate bowl mix together flour and cornstarch with a little salt and pepper. Then dip your chicken into the flour/cornstarch, and then into the egg mixture. Put chicken into hot oil. I used just a regular frying pan filled 1/3 of the way up with oil (vegetable or canola-do not use Olive Oil). Make sure that your oil stays at a temperate of about 375 or your chicken won't be crispy on the outside. Cook on each side-about 3 minutes per side-or until browned. In a seperate pan add about 2 cups of sauce. Then add your cooked chicken. Let chicken simmer in the sauce for about 5 minutes. Serve with rice or noodles.

This recipe is great! Thank you.

Putting the chicken into the flour THEN the egg seems opposite of what I am use to. Is that really how you are doing it...egg THEN fry without putting it BACK into the flour? Just want to confirm. Going to try it tonight at home. ;-)

Thanks

Hi Rachel...sounds strange, but that is how we did it and it was great!!

I just bought this sauce at Costco and I'm looking for a recipe using it in the crock pot and I stumbled upon your blog. Have you ever tried it with just chicken breasts in the crock pot? I don't have the time to fry the chicken and also I'd rather not have the fat from frying.

I have never used the crockpot with my sauce...but I am sure you could! I would say less sauce is more though! With the crockpot, you won't get the crispy yumminess that you would with frying however. You could always bake it...just do egg then flour, and then the sauce once it is baked. Just a suggestion:) I would love to hear how you did the crockpot version!

Was wondering how this might be with shrimp? I have a bottle and was thinking of stirfrying shrimp and some vegetables (mushrooms, broccoli). However, I cannot find anyon who has tried it. Was curious of thoughts...

Hi Christopher,
I have never used it with shrimp...but that sounds great! Usually sauces that work well with chicken, work with shrimp when it comes to asian cooking...so I am sure it would be ok!

Thanks. I'll give it a short. Probably marinate the shrimp in it or a little while when I prepare the vegetables, then put those aside get the shrimp going with the orange sauce and then toss it all together. Could be interesting (I am new to the cooking thing).
